Default ping spikes in gw

i've been getting massive ping spikes in gw. normally it runs around at 100-300 ping (not great, but at least playable), and every once in while, it would spike up to 1000+. as far as i can tell, gw is the only game that does this.

i'm using acanac DSL broadband, 5000/512 down/up. it uses cogentco for uploads. i've used this provider before at my current location using my old computer. i don't recall having these ping spikes before.

right now i'm not sure if this is a problem with the ISP, or maybe some conflict regarding vista and dsl internet.

Its not just you, and there's a good chance its not your ISP. Read the forums a bit more and you'll discover at least one new thread like this pretty much daily for the last little bit. I suppose we can keep hoping that someone out there with the power to do something about GW's lag issues will eventually read one of these posts and decide to do something about it... but I wouldn't hold your breath.

One thing you can try that for some reason I have had success with is to switch over to some of the farthest away districts from where you actually are. I'm in the midwest, but for some reason I get the least lag while I play in traditional chinese districts. Go figure. Maybe it has somethign to do with all the europeans and chinese people playing on the american districts?

this doesn't look like a problem with GW's server. if it is, then i should be getting bad ping all the time, instead of it spiking up like that. ping spikes are generally caused by routing than anything else.
